The training will help farmers comply with rules on animal transport, ensuring they hold the correct certification for moving livestock beyond certain distances.
Since 2008, anyone transporting farm animals over 65km—up to and including eight hours of travel—must hold a Level 2 Animal Transport Assessment Qualification (short journey).
Carol, a Farmer Network coordinator, said: “This qualification and assessment test is a legal requirement.
“I would urge any Yorkshire farmers needing to take it, to give me a call for a chat.
“We are really keen to help farmers take the course and assessment, to make sure they are legally compliant with the legislation.”
The qualification, required for transporting animals including horses and poultry as part of economic activity, enables drivers to obtain a Transport Authorisation Licence through the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA).
The Farmer Network, which has been running advisory courses for several years, will now offer a course and test for £50 per person, thanks to part funding from the Yorkshire Agricultural Society.
Farmer Network members can access the training at a discounted rate of £40.
The licence is valid for five years, but the assessment test only needs to be taken once.
The course includes a self-learning pack and the opportunity to sit the assessment test.
Two test dates are available: November 24 at 10am at Yoredale National Park Centre in Bainbridge (DL8 3EL), and November 26 at 10am at Pateley Bridge Auction.
