A popular music event is returning to Darlington today in aid of the armed forces.
Proms in the Park will be taking place in South Park from 3pm.
People are being urged to come along with a picnic to enjoy an afternoon of music.
Where is it taking place?
The music is taking place at the band stand in South Park.
People are being encouraged to bring their own rugs or chairs and picnic to make the most of the afternoon.
If you want to get involved in a bit of flag waving – make sure you bring one!
It starts at 3pm and will be on until 5pm.
Is there a charge?
The event is free and no tickets are required.
There will be a collection, which is in aid of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, the national charity of the British Army.
What can I expect?
Organised by Darlington Borough Council and the Northern Military Music Group, the annual event is once again sponsored by Modus Group.
This year’s event will feature The Royal Signals (Northern) Band, Pipes & Drums 102 Battalion Reme and The Soldiers of Swing (Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalists).
Youngsters from Mowden Junior and Reid Street School Choirs, will also be singing to entertain the crowds.
What have people said?
Councillor Mike Renton, the council’s cabinet member for stronger communities, said: “Proms in the Park forms part of our celebrations of all that our Armed Forces, past and present, do for us, and I’m honoured to lead this community tribute to them.
“I hope as many people as possible will join us for this popular musical tribute – no tickets are needed for the Proms, just bring along your chairs, picnics and your flags to wave and join in the fun.”
Dave Crowther, Warrant Officer and band manager, said: “This has become a firm favourite and a fantastic event in the band’s programme and our musicians always look forward to sharing their music with the wonderful people of Darlington.”
