Kuhn launches hedge cutter with improved reach and electronic control

Kuhn Farm Machinery, based in Telford, has added the Multi-Longer 6157 e-TPAL to its range of hedge and verge cutters.

The telescopic, left-handed model offers a 6.1-metre reach and has been designed for contractors and farmers across the UK and Ireland.

Rhodri Jenkins, Kuhn’s grassland product specialist, said: “The 6157 is likely to be a popular model with UK contractors and farmers, offering the right balance of compact dimensions for road work and excellent reach for field hedges and ditches.”

The 6157 comes with Kuhn’s e-ASSIST system as standard, which uses sensors to electronically control the cutting head angle.

This is designed to deliver a consistent and even finish by maintaining the correct cutting head position and automatically adjusting during operation.

Mr Jenkins said: “e-ASSIST allows a consistent cutting head angle and arm height regardless of the working reach.

“Working on uneven field edges can cause issues whilst trying to maintain a level finish and the e-ASSIST feature aims to make this easier.”

The model also includes the e-TPAL feature, which is controlled via an EP joystick that enables simultaneous management of all four proportional movements.

The joystick experience is further enhanced by the VT 61 terminal, which provides instant access to machine data and settings, including the parallelogram movement controls.

A redesigned joystick is expected to be introduced soon.

The Multi-Longer 6157 e-TPAL is only available with Kuhn’s STABILINK axle-mounted brackets, allowing connection to the tractor in under 15 minutes.

This mounting system provides greater assurance at full reach.

A heavy-duty A-frame is currently in development.

The machine comes standard with a 1.2-metre-wide cutting head, with the option to upgrade to a 1.5-metre-wide unit.

Depending on the head, users can select between 24 or 28 T-flails.

The machine requires a tractor weighing at least 5.5 tonnes and delivering a minimum of 100 horsepower.
