The Fevershan Arms hotel comprises 33 bedrooms, bar, restaurant, private dining rooms, and library as well as two contemporary buildings featuring poolside suites and a substantial spa complex.

The hotel’s Verbena Spa features a sauna, aromatherapy room, steam room, monsoon shower, foot spas, a hot tub and a heated outdoor pool.

Last year it saw a £3.4million turnover including a strong profit margin.

The hotel has been owned by Feversham Arms Limited since 2008, with three active directors listed on Companies House; Wayne Parham, Roderick Whiteford and John Jameson.

Joint Administrator, Oliver Collinge sai “We are delighted to have completed this sale to Rockliffe. We would like to extend our thanks to the staff at the hotel; they have made a huge contribution to ensuring a successful outcome by maintaining the high levels of service that the hotel’s guests expect, despite the challenges and uncertainty that administration brings. We would also like to thank Rockliffe for a smooth transaction – we are sure the hotel will go from strength to strength under their ownership.”

The Joint Administrators were represented in the sale process by Robert Smithson of the UK hotels agency team at Colliers and legal advisers Weightmans, led by Oliver Nelson, and supported by Shevy Narendra, Daniel Baker and Mark Crabtree.

A spokesperson for Rockliffe Hall’s owner said they recognised the appeal of Helmsley and the surrounding areas for UK and international travellers and sees the ongoing potential for the hotel.

Rockliffe Hall, an award-winning five-star resort hotel with spa, golf course and multiple restaurants on the County Durham and North Yorkshire border, also owns The Pheasant Hotel, in Harome.

“The hotel will continue to operate in its current format and all employees will be transferred under TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) regulations), with all contracted terms and conditions remaining the same.

“The new owners wish to thank the administrators, and in particular Oliver Collinge and Liz Sapsted, for their co-operation in ensuring a smooth transition of ownership. The legal work for the purchasers was undertaken by a team from Womble Bond Dickinson’s Newcastle office, led by Simon Watts.”

Originally an old coaching inn, The Feversham Arms was rebuilt and renamed in 1855 by the Earl of Feversham on the site of an older hostelry. It was previously known as The Guest House, The Board Inn and latterly The Bay Horse where beer and candles were made for sale.
