Student Finance England in Darlington deny losing high numbers of staff

A source contacted the D&S with concerns that lots of staff were leaving the Darlington office and impacting the delays of applications for student finance.

The organisation has denied that there has been a higher attrition rate than usual this year.

In fact, fewer employees left than the same time last year.

A Student Loans Company spokesperson said: “SLC values the contributions of our employees, past and present, and we recognise that career changes are a normal part of working life.

“As one of the largest employers in the area, we regularly see staff leaving and re-joining our organisation, which is entirely typical for an employer of our size.

“We support our employees in their professional development and the attrition rate in our Darlington office is lower this year than at the same time last year.

“We don’t keep records of whether individuals continue to work or where they choose to work after leaving SLC.”
