Wensleydale Creamery wins at international cheese awards

As the world’s largest cheese and dairy awards, the ICDA showcases more than 5,000 cheeses from across the globe and champions leading cheese and dairy producers.

A particular highlight for the Hawes-based business was the Berkel Trophy for Best Creamery Territorial Cheese for its Yorkshire Wensleydale, which saw it go up against the likes of Double Gloucester, Red Leicester and Cheshire Cheese for the top spot.

The full list of awards was:

  • Yorkshire Wensleydale, two golds, two silvers and a bronze
  • Kit Calvert Old-Style Wensleydale, silver
  • Yorkshire Wensleydale and Pineapple, bronze

Wensleydale Creamery also triumphed at the Great Yorkshire Show, taking home eight awards, including a prestigious gold and best butter for its Yorkshire Butter.

Sandra Bell, Wensleydale Creamery’s marketing manager, said: “Being recognised in both the International Cheese and Dairy Awards and at the Great Yorkshire Show is testament to the quality of our products and the skill of our cheesemakers.

“Bringing together producers and retailers from across the world, the awards really put on show the best of the best in the cheese and dairy industry, so to have been recognised in multiple categories is incredible. We’re really proud of the whole team that make Yorkshire Wensleydale what it is.”
